Why Laos

A high-potential market at the center of mainland Southeast Asia.

Laos sits between China, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, giving investors access to major regional markets and trade corridors. Recent growth has been supported by tourism and transport, electricity exports and expanding activity in energy, mining and manufacturing.

For investors, four opportunity areas repeatedly stand out: energy, agriculture, tourism and mining. Each benefits from Laos’ natural-resource base, improving connectivity and cross-border economic links.

Energy

Hydropower, solar, transmission and regional power trade position Laos as an important electricity producer in mainland Southeast Asia.

Agriculture

Land availability, export demand and regional supply chains support commercial crops, processing and agricultural inputs.

Tourism

Culture, nature and improving transport links continue to support demand from regional and international travelers.

Mining

Mineral resources and strategic demand create opportunities for responsible resource development and supporting infrastructure.

Investment context. World Bank reporting notes that Laos’ recent growth has been supported by tourism and transport, electricity and electrical-equipment exports, and steady expansion in energy, mining and manufacturing. Population reached about 7.87 million in 2025 with continued positive growth. World Bank, June 2026 ↗
